Decide where you will hold the event

Do you want to visit a local restaurant, get people round your kitchen table or in your church hall? You need to hold the type of event that you’re most comfortable with organising.

Although holding it in a church and getting a takeaway in might seem the easiest, it could act as a deterrent for non-Christians.

Holding the event round your kitchen table means either a more intimate gathering or cramming people in.

Visiting a restaurant means sorting out the bill at the end – who did order that mushroom bhajee?

There are pros and cons for each, so make the decision carefully. On balance, we’d encourage you to go to your local Indian restaurant, especially as you’ll be supporting local businesses and there’s no washing up afterwards!

Book the restaurant & decide the menu

If you’re eating out, then make a provisional booking now, giving the restaurant an indication of the likely numbers. Don’t worry if it’s not right, you can (and should) confirm numbers in the week leading up to the curry night.

When booking, you could ask if they’ll offer a set menu or a buffet for you – they might do this as a matter of course or be prepared to do you something special. It would make the ordering process easier.

If you’re going to hold the event at home or at church, then you’ll need to decide whether you’ll make the curries yourself, buy from a supermarket or order a takeaway. It’s good to support a local business, so you might consider ordering a takeaway and asking people to order in advance. If you don’t like curry, you could consider having a chilli or stew night instead.
